"I cannot begin to tell you how much we enjoyed your recent residency here at Harford Day. The incredible mobiles you created with the students are breathtaking! We are all still excited and abuzz at our new additions here. Everyone who sees the mobiles is awe struck, especially by the fact that students created them."

“The experience our students had working with Kevin was something these students will never forget. The icing on the cake is to have this amazingly colorful sculpture the kids can come back and see year after year!”

Lisa Foley, Art teacher

An excellent communicator, Kevin interacts equally well with children and adults filling each session with practical and fun lessons in science and math along with art. The results he and the students achieved by the end of the week are astonishing, and are now being enjoyed by the entire community. SchoolSculptures is an amazing residency project, and gets our highest recommendation.

Sharon Owens Carteret Arts Forum Beaufort, North Carolina

My class totally enjoyed this experience. My third graders developed a vocabulary list of over 80 words which were used thru-out all academic curriculum areas over the course of the week. To watch the project go from paper to actual sculpture over a 5 day period was awesome. The “hands-on” portion of the residency is something my students will NEVER forget. Thank you to ALL who made this happen at our school!!”

Gail Karcher, 3rd grade teacher, Skycrest Elementary, Clearwater, FL

I enjoyed working with Kevin so much! I have worked with about a dozen resident artists through various grants and you by far created the most wonderful experience! The mobile itself is absolutely amazing. It is so gorgeous that even though I was there every step of the way and know that second and third graders created it, the craftsmanship is so beautiful and professional that it looks like a master sculptor created it! I loved that the process involved the students from start to finish. Students created the sketches that informed the model of the mobile, constructed the shapes, sanded and flameproofed, and then finally painted and learned about how to physically create a mobile. This is a dream come true for teachers- it isn't often that you end up with a project that involves so many students and covers art concepts (balance, composition, color, and repetition), math skills that concretely show real life situations using multiplication, measuring, using a compass and working to scales is, as well as the physics of gravity and balance. I taught art for eleven years and understand the importance of having a wonderful idea that involves master exemplars (Calder) and a cool product, but unless you also have mastered how to logistically break the process down and deliver information to students in a meaningful way, a teacher has nothing. Kevin, on the other hand, has mastered a residency that does all of this so well. The students were engaged and excited and every second you had accounted for. There was no lag time where students became restless. Kevin has a rare quality - big art ideas and the organizational skills to boot! Thank you for everything! One of my favorite weeks ever and definitely my favorite art residency!
